Teaching Personnel is working with a forward-thinking Pupil Referral Service in Rochdale to recruit a resilient and motivated Behaviour Support Assistant. About the Provision This specialist setting supports pupils aged 5–16 who have struggled in mainstream education, often presenting with: Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Behavioural challenges Complex personal and educational backgrounds The school offers a structured, trauma-informed approach, focused on rebuilding trust, improving behaviour, and creating positive pathways for learning and development. Your Role You will play a key role in supporting pupils both in and outside the classroom by: Delivering 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs Using effective behaviour management strategies to maintain engagement Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils Supporting emotional regulation and de-escalation techniques Promoting positive behaviour, teamwork, and respect Adapting learning activities to suit different abilities and behaviours Maintaining clear boundaries with a calm, consistent approach Working closely with teaching and pastoral teams Contributing to progress tracking and support plans Helping create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment Who We’re Looking For Essential: Background in sports coaching, youth work, mentoring, or behaviour support Strong communication and behaviour management skills Calm, patient, and resilient under pressure Ability to build rapport with challenging or disengaged young people Genuine passion for working with vulnerable learners Full-time availability and commitment Desirable: Experience within a PRU, SEMH school, or alternative provision Team Teach training (or willingness to complete) Understanding of trauma-informed practice or SEMH strategies Why Apply?
