The Job Mission
This is a hybrid role; we will consider candidates living within commutable distance to Bridgwater, and will support relocation as appropriate.
You will work within the Commissioning Programme of a major nuclear new-build project. You will ensure environmental compliance and assurance across construction and commissioning phases. You will collaborate with commissioning, safety, and environmental professionals to maintain high-standards of performance.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Supporting commissioning delivery teams to conduct environmental compliance activities on site
* Promoting adherence to statutory environmental legislation and best practice standards
* Conducting environmental assurance and surveillance in construction and commissioning environments
* Advising on environmental safety issues and contributing to technical work-streams across the programme
* Building strong relationships with environmental, safety and quality professionals across the project
* Collecting, interpreting and verifying environmental data related to waste, emissions and pollution prevention
* Producing environmental safety performance reports with trend analysis and recommended remedial actions
* Supporting regulatory interfaces, inspections, risk-based assessments and assurance activities
* Implementing and improving environmental safety controls across the commissioning programme
* Supporting emergency preparedness and environmental incident management activities
* This position requires a mixture of attendance on site and the office in Bridgwater
Qualifications
Essential
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in an environment-related discipline
* Practical experience on active construction or industrial sites with environmental surveillance
* Strong communication skills with ability to build effective stakeholder relationships
* Understanding of environmental compliance in a regulated industry
* Hands-on experience with waste management, environmental permitting and pollution control
* Proven capability in writing, implementing or reviewing environmental specifications and risk assessments
* Knowledge of UK environmental permitting, waste management framework and monitoring
* Ability to analyse environmental risk, produce clear reports and advice on technical environmental issues
✔️ Desired
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (or working toward)
* Experience in a construction environment, ideally in commissioning or pre-operations
* Understanding of radiological/non-radiological environmental compliance in nuclear power industry
* Experience interfacing with UK regulators (e.g. ONR / EA)
* Experience in site investigation, land contamination assessment, or Water Framework Directive / Habitats Regulations
