Occupational Therapist – Static Neuro and Trauma Therapy Team
The Royal London is a world‑renowned specialist tertiary Major Trauma centre that caters for the North East London and Essex Trauma Network.
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with an interest/specialism in Trauma to join our Neuro and Trauma team as a static Band 6 Trauma Occupational Therapist. The role includes exposure in Major Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastics wards.
As part of a large, friendly, and dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will provide assessment and intervention to adults who have been involved in major trauma, including polytrauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, soft tissue injuries and multiple orthopaedic injuries.
Main duties of the job
• Provide specialist assessment and intervention to patients with complex and multiple polytrauma and neurological conditions, determining impairment, activity limitation and participation/role restrictions and developing the occupational therapy intervention required.
• Work in an integrated way with team colleagues and external agencies spanning acute, primary care and community health services in London.
• Participate in continued service development of the Trauma Occupational Therapy service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Valid HCPC registration
* Fulfil KSF outline for Occupational Therapist (Band 5)
* Clinical experience in the NHS or similar health service across a range of acute/rehab settings
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists / British Association of Occupational Therapy
* Member of a special interest group relevant to Major Trauma, orthopaedics, neuro
Experience
* Experience across core rotations e.g. orthopaedics, surgery, vascular, acute medicine, elderly care, amputees
* Experience of working with culturally diverse populations
* Experience of working with interpreters and/or health advocates
* Previous experience in supervising band 3, 4, 5 or undergraduate students
Knowledge
* Knowledge of a range of orthopaedic, plastics, polytraumatic injuries, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation and the impairments and functional difficulties which they may cause
* Knowledge of key assessments and available treatment options (and their evidence base) in trauma rehabilitation / disability management e.g. pain management, fatigue management, activity as occupation
* Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
* Understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for occupational therapy and client care
* Knowledge of clinical guidelines e.g. NICE guidelines for traumatic injury
