Overview
CDM Principal Designer sought by a privately owned, multi-disciplinary construction consultancy in Northampton (hybrid working). The role supports clients across the Industrial, Commercial and Residential sectors with ongoing demand for CDM and Health and Safety consultation.
Responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle and that designs are safe to build and construction is carried out safely on site, in line with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM15).
* Embed health and safety into the pre-construction and construction process and ensure full compliance with CDM15.
* Collaborate with the wider team and clients on:
* Production of relevant CDM documentation
* Writing pre-construction information reports and compiling the information pack for tender
* Compiling the Design Risk Registers with the design team
* Assessing contractor risk assessments and method statements and the Principal Contractor’s construction phase plan
* Drafting communications to clients to discharge their duties under CDM15
* Participate in internal and external stakeholder meetings, providing CDM/H&S advice throughout the full project lifecycle
* Support the project team in managing construction design risk, undertaking site visits and audits to advise on health and safety improvements and best practice
* Compile Site Inspection Reports for the project team
* Act as a point of contact for CDM/H&S matters, engaging with the project team on all CDM15, Principal Designer, and health and safety matters
Qualifications and experience
* Prior experience in a similar role within the construction industry; ideally as a Principal Designer on large/complex projects
* NEBOSH (construction) qualification, construction-related degree, HND or HNC
* CSCS card
* Knowledge and understanding of health and safety in construction and CDM15 regulations
* Understanding of the role of Principal Designer (CDM) and the construction process, RIBA stages, and information flow in the Principal Designer work-stream
* Excellent communication skills; fluent in English, written and spoken
* Ability to manage diary, plan workload, and handle multiple priorities
* Driven, enthusiastic, and willing to learn and develop within the role
* Member of the Association of Project Safety and IOSH
* Full driving licence and ability to travel within the UK to client sites
