Position: Business Manager - Rail Resource Solutions

The Role:
The Business Manager is responsible for identifying, securing, and supplying high‑quality technical and professional resources to meet client needs within a specialist railway consultancy environment. The role sits at the intersection of client relationship management, resource acquisition, and commercial delivery, ensuring customer requirements are met efficiently, compliantly, and profitably.
This is a commercially focused role, requiring strong market awareness, relationship‑building capability, and the ability to match client demand with the right talent at pace.
Key Responsibilities include:
Client & Commercial Management
* Main point of contact for clients needing consultancy services and resources.
* Understand detailed client requirements (technical, organisational, compliance, timelines).
* Identify opportunities to supply additional or alternative resources.
* Negotiate rates, margins, and contract terms.
* Ensure all deployments meet commercial and contractual standards.
Resource Search & Supply
* Source candidates via networking, mapping, referrals, databases, and direct outreach.
* Maintain awareness of the rail, engineering, and infrastructure talent market.
* Screen and assess candidates against client requirements.
* Maintain a strong pipeline of deployable resources.
Account Development
* Build long‑term relationships with clients and resources to drive repeat business.
* Identify future client needs and workforce trends.
* Cross‑sell wider consultancy services.
* Support account planning and contribute to revenue and margin growth.
Governance, Compliance & Delivery
* Ensure all placements meet internal, client, and regulatory requirements.
* Keep accurate CRM and system records.
* Monitor assignment performance, extensions, and end dates.
* Resolve delivery, performance, or contractual issues promptly.
Internal Collaboration
* Work closely with delivery, business development, and leadership teams to align on commercial outcomes.
* Provide market insight to support service improvements and strategic decisions.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of resourcing and commercial processes.

* Experience in business management, resourcing, or consultancy roles.
* Strong commercial acumen, including rate and margin negotiation.
* Proven ability to source and place technical talent.
* Excellent stakeholder and relationship‑management skills.
* Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
Desirable
* Experience in rail, engineering, infrastructure, or energy sectors.
