Blackheath, WESTERN CAPE - My client is seeking a talented Civil Engineering Project Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will oversee and manage civil engineering projects from conception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, excellent project management skills, and the ability to lead a team effectively. Main Purpose of the Role: Overall management of site operations Maintain production targets for each site and ensure each site operates within prescribed costs budgets Co-ordinate and control activities of site staff and ensure all work complies with the quality standards as set out in the contract and company policies and procedures Compile and submit claims for contract sites to Contracts Manager Responsibilities include but not limited to: Pre project preparation and to be familiar with documents especially: Project specification Special conditions and Qualifications Bill of Quantities and which items are critically priced Prepare financial side by establishing: Programme, resource schedule and other contract requirements Break evens, production targets Measurement and costing systems Ensure all contractual requirements are fulfilled, checklists completed and arrangements made for: First official site meeting Existing services Camp and job establishment Company organizational arrangements Starting the job – All start up procedures and requirements Quantities taken off and materials ordered Plan and supervise productivity of all sub-ordinates by: Allocating and explaining the work delegated to them Prior to each operation, discuss the requirements with them Overseeing all setting out by doing periodic and independent checks Instruct in detail regarding each process and especially on common errors, and quality standards Checking the progress and sequence of construction, ensuring daily planning is done with all supervisory and other staff Hold regular (at least weekly) meetings to update progress and requirements Highlighting critical activities and monitoring the critical path Profitable resource management - plant, labour and materials Monitoring material usage and taking steps to control wastage Checking on the quality of processes and products Actively applying a policy of defect prevention Maintain progress in accordance with the programme and budget, by: Maintaining updated programme and break-even charts Monitoring and checking accuracy of costing system Controlling costs of labour, plant and material by reviewing the abovementioned Informing of variances and any inability to meet break evens Co-ordinate and oversee the activities, progress and quality of subcontractors, and hold regular meetings with them Maintain open communication with Client, Engineer, Local Authorities etc. to fulfil all necessary contract requirements Lead and motivate the construction team, including subcontractors, ensuring efficient collaboration and productivity Enhance the Company image by maintaining a tidy site and by minimizing inconvenience to the public Ensure industrial peace by maintaining good labour relations in accordance with company procedures Submit monthly progress statements by: Maintaining an accurate and updated measuring system Identifying and pricing variations and additions Complying with contract conditions regarding claims Ensuring that statements and VAT invoices are produced on time Expeditiously producing agreed completion statements and obtaining certificates of practical completion Maintain a safe and secure site by: Conforming to health and safety requirements on site as indicated in Work Instruction Ensuring that all plant, tools, equipment, offices etc. are secure all plant is regularly checked, fueled, serviced and used and stored correctly. Education and Experience Required: Relevant Degree or Diploma SACPCMP registration or similar preferable At least 5 years of experience in a similar (operational experience preferred) position in the civil engineering sector Strong experience in planning and programming (MS Projects and or Candy) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Strong Excel skills Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects Skills Required: Able to adapt to fit in with company culture Contractual knowledge, understanding and implementations A good knowledge and understanding of construction Commercial awareness Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships Strong mathematics and IT skills Good budgeting skills The ability to work both on your own and as part of a team The ability to work to deadlines Good problem-solving skills Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills An understanding of health and safety standards Key Performance Indicators: Project Success (Complaints and compliments, Productions, Awards, Referrals) Project Profitability (Allowables achieved, Shortfalls identified prior to work done, Variation orders) Client Feedback (Effective Communication)
