Position Overview
The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department, driving sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small animals. The role involves coaching and mentoring Pet Care Center partners to support and enhance the guest experience and animal care. Responsibilities include training, development, supporting operations scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, margin, and shrink targets, while adhering to safety standards.
Position Responsibilities
* Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
* Ensure the health and well-being of live animals according to Petco standards, policies, and procedures.
* Adhere to veterinary protocols for sick animals.
* Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
* Support guest interactions and sales modeling.
* Implement and execute operations through training and coaching in animal care, aquatics, and compliance.
* Manage inventory effectively, ordering live animals to maximize sales and margins.
* Maintain operational standards and animal-related maintenance tasks.
* Achieve presentation standards in aquatic and animal areas.
* Partner with merchandising to ensure stock levels meet goals.
* Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
* Analyze sales and margin reports to inform decisions.
* Lead, coach, and provide feedback to team members for quality service.
* Ensure proper scheduling to meet in-stock and guest service goals.
* Apply talent management skills in recruiting, training, and succession planning.
* Provide excellent guest service and product recommendations.

Education and Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent; college courses preferred.
* 1+ years management experience; 2+ preferred.
* Valid driver's license required.
* Proficiency in communication, organization, and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Strong guest service, problem-solving, and people development skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervise Operations Specialists and Senior Aquatics Specialists; support store operations as a Leader on Duty.
Work Environment
Support during key hours, including weekends. Mostly indoors, with some physical activity involved. Some travel may be required.

Regular interaction with guests, team members, vendors, and external partners to coordinate activities and ensure smooth operations.
