Offer description

- Doncaster

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Training Academy in Doncaster to teach apprentices and help shape the future talent within our business.

You should be a motivated and experienced Painter and Decorator with a passion for apprentices and passing on your skills to them.

This is a full-time role.

About Us

Bagnalls Painters and Decorators is a trusted, family-owned company established in 1875, with 14 branches across the UK. We are proud of our reputation for delivering high-quality painting and decorating services, with a commitment to long-term relationships and outstanding results. Many of our team have been with us for decades, reflecting our supportive culture and investment in career development.

The Role:

The role involves the delivery of teaching technical painting and decorating skills to apprentices which will allow them to undertake their site role to the highest standard. Your support will also help them to achieve the requirements of the college to pass their apprenticeship, including undertaking their End Point Assessment (EPA).

You will be helping students prepare for their assessments, and competitions in a combination of theory and practical teaching. You will have responsibility for health and safety and equipment maintenance within the Academy. You will also deliver specific training, including steps, ladders and hop ups. You must therefore be confident in your own craft skills and be able to explain these in a constructive way.

You will be teaching a syllabus created in conjunction with Doncaster College which includes everything from, wallpapering and cutting in, to colour wheel and hazard perception.

This is a key role within the company and is important to helping Bagnalls create a pathway of highly skilled qualified painters.

You should be aware that you will have safeguarding responsibilities as some apprentices are under the age of 18. The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.

You:

You will be a responsible role model that apprentices can look up to whilst at the Academy. We ask that you have the following:

Essential Criteria:

1. NVQ Level 3 in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent)
2. Experience of working on a range of commercial painting and decorating contracts including highly decorative work
3. Ability to give constructive feedback sensitively
4. Good organisational skills
5. Good verbal communication skills including the ability to explain difficult concepts
6. Ability to show initiative
7. A high level of patience
8. Helpful and flexible approach to day-to-day tasks
9. Willingness and ability to work independently and to learn new skills quickly
10. Competence in using Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Word
11. Full driving licence

Desirable Criteria:

12. Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities when working with under 18s
13. Experience of painting and decorating and/or paper hanging competitions
14. IT Skills

Your Development

You will be managed by the HR and Learning and Development Advisor (Kirsty Stokes) who will go through a thorough onboarding process and support you transitioning into the role.

The role can be what you make of it with plenty of opportunity to gain increased responsibility.

The first stage of the interview process will be a telephone interview, and should this be successful, you may then be invited to a face to face interview on the below date. A second face to face interview may follow.

Face to Face Interview Dates: 23/24 February 2026

Why Join Us?

15. Be part of a long-established, family-run business with a strong reputation.
16. Work in a supportive and professional team environment.
17. Benefit from training, development, and genuine career progression opportunities.
18. Private medical healthcare available plans available.
