Job Description
A specialist SEND school in North Liverpool is looking to appoint a motivated and caring SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.
The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and is seeking someone who can provide stability & encouragement throughout the school day. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils build confidence, regulate emotions, and engage positively in learning.
The Role
1. Provide tailored support to pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small group settings
2. Support students in overcoming barriers to learning and emotional regulation
3. Use positive behaviour strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging situations
4. Work closely with as a team with other teachers and pastoral staff to create a safe learning environment
5. Encourage pupil participation and social development
The Ideal Candidate
6. Previous experience working within a SEND, SEMH, or alternative provision setting is desirable
7. Confident managing challenging behaviour
8. A background in sports coaching or similar transferable experience
9. Resilient & empathetic to supporting vulnerable young people
10. Strong communication and relationship-building skills
