SALARY: £127,521 - £133,044 (2026/27 rate)
Expressions of interest are invited from experienced senior nursing staff who hold a registered nurse qualification and can demonstrate experience of a significant senior leadership role in NHSGGC.
The senior position of Interim Deputy Nurse Director (Corporate and Strategy) is available for a period of 6 months. The successful candidate will be offered the post on a 6-month secondment basis. As this is a secondment, you must ensure that you have obtained consent from your line manager in advance of application.
Role of the Department
The Corporate Nursing Directorate provides professional leadership, strategic direction, and expert advice on all aspects of nursing and midwifery policy and practice across NHSGGC. The department, led by the Executive Nurse Director, is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that support safe, effective, person-centred care ensuring the optimal development and deployment of the nursing, midwifery and wider healthcare workforce. The Directorate is organised into a number of nursing, midwifery and AHP corporate teams delivering support services across all disciplines including: clinical education, person-centred care and patient experience, e-Rostering; policy development, quality assurance, and workforce planning. Additionally, the Directorate has a responsibility for all NMC referrals and the management and coordination of related correspondence across NHSGGC. Through these functions the Directorate plays a central role in improving the health of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s population, supporting service transformation, and ensuring high standards of nursing care across all areas Board wide.
Scope and Range
This is a senior strategic leadership role within the organisation, providing expert advice and professional leadership to nurses and midwives across NHSGGC. Through visible, expert leadership the post-holder will influence the strategic direction of nursing across NHSGGC, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting high-quality standards of care and service delivery. The post-holder will provide strategic expert nursing leadership for clinical governance, risk management, and quality assurance processes ensuring that robust systems are in place to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care. This includes overseeing learning from significant incidents, complaints, adverse events and regulatory findings ensuring compliance with national frameworks such as Excellence in Care and the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 requirements.
The post-holder will also have a critical influencing and professional leadership role to play in leading major programmes of service improvement, transformation, and patient experience offering senior professional advice to drive modernisation, enhance performance, and develop new and innovative models of care. The post-holder will also have a significant leadership role to play in shaping and influencing nursing and midwifery education, research, and audit programmes through the provision of strong professional leadership and voice in policy development, performance management, financial management, people management, and corporate governance processes at the highest level.
The post-holder will be a key member of the Executive Nurse Director’s Senior Management Team and will contribute to the setting and delivery of strategic objectives for the Directorate, financial decision-making in relation to all aligned recurring and non-recurring budgets, and will be an expert nursing advisor and professional resource to this team, and other corporate and senior management teams across NHSGGC.
The post holder is expected to work strategically across a wide network of senior leaders and partners, engaging closely with Executive Directors, senior clinical and management teams, MDTs, and corporate services across NHSGGC. The post-holder will deputise for the Executive Nurse Director when required which will require liaison with key service partners within NHS Scotland, including the Scottish Government, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, NES, Further and Higher Education Institutes, and the NMC in influencing, planning national policy, joint initiatives and curriculum development. The role requires a highly influential leader able to build strong relationships, navigate complex professional environments, and represent nursing and midwifery effectively at local, regional, and national levels.
