The Role:
As a New Business Trading Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth by underwriting and negotiating new commercial business across a range of sectors. You’ll work closely with brokers, build strong relationships, and apply your technical expertise to assess risks and deliver competitive solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Underwrite new business cases across commercial lines including property, casualty, and combined risks
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships to generate and convert new business opportunities
• Negotiate terms and pricing within underwriting authority and company guidelines
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with underwriting standards
• Collaborate with internal teams including pricing, actuarial, and claims to support decision-making
• Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform trading strategy
• Contribute to the achievement of regional and national growth targets
What We’re Looking For:
• Proven experience in commercial underwriting, ideally in a new business trading role
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
• Excellent market awareness and commercial acumen
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Cert CII or ACII qualification (or working towards) preferred
• Knowledge of London market dynamics and broker networks
