Trainee Biomedical Scientist /Specialist Biomedical Scientist


Band 5: £33,247- £41,424 / Band 6: £41,608 - £50,702


Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin


Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin




Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry, OR from graduates with an Applied Biomedical Science (Hons) degree, or a Biomedical Sciences (Hons) degree which is accredited by the IBMS as suitable for training purposes.



Newly graduated candidates, if successful, will be placed on Band 5 and required to complete their Specialist Portfolio prior to progression to Band 6. Qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists will be placed at band 6. Candidates with more than 1 years’ experience working as an HCPC registered BMS will not be considered for a trainee position and must meet the Band 6 person specification.



The Department is a multidisciplinary laboratory, accepted by MHRA to be generally compliant with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations and provides Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, limited Microbiology and Blood Transfusion services to Dr Gray’s Hospital. It is a satellite of the main Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology laboratories sited at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, both of whom hold full UKAS accreditation.


Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the Continuous Processing Shift system currently in operation which is EWTD compliant and attracts suitable remuneration.


The Department is approved by IBMS/HCPC as a training laboratory and is UKAS accredited. Participation in CPD activities is actively encouraged and funding for further postgraduate study is available.
