The Role:
The Science Technician will support the smooth running of the science laboratories and assist teachers in delivering practical, engaging and safe science lessons. Daily responsibilities include preparing apparatus, chemicals and equipment for lessons; ensuring materials are available promptly; organising storage; maintaining equipment; and ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed to a high standard.
You will be responsible for the safe disposal of chemicals, cleaning and sterilising glassware, conducting regular safety checks on laboratory equipment and monitoring stock levels. You will support teachers with setting up demonstrations, trialling new practicals and ensuring that all risk assessments and safety documentation are up to date. The role also involves contributing to the organisation of science events such as STEM fairs, science week, revision workshops and extracurricular clubs.
Requirements:
• Experience working in a laboratory, school or technical environment (preferred but not essential)
• Strong practical knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and Physics equipment
• Understanding of laboratory safety, COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently and support a busy teaching team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices
