Role
The Environment Agency are recruiting a fixed-term Energy Senior Advisor to regulate energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries. The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero drives transformation in the energy sectors, which must decarbonise by 2050 while increasing electricity production. Through effective regulation, we aim to protect people and the environment from emissions and mitigate climate change impacts. The role is up to 2 years.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you may be required to take an incident role and support business continuity during incidents.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation within the Environment & Business Directorate. Our technical experts lead on standards for the sector, providing strategic direction, tools for regulation, guidance and training, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
* ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and to encourage consideration of diversity in work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience in the work area, including knowledge of emission control measures
* ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, operators, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
