Interim Senior People and Culture Partner
This role will require regular attendance at BACP House in Lutterworth of around 1 day per week.
About the role
BACP is the leading professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in the UK, with over 70,000 members. We employ around 190 staff in a wide range of roles, from supporting our members to carrying out research and promoting the profession.
We are looking for an experienced Interim Senior People and Culture Partner to lead and support our small People and Culture team. The team includes a People and Culture Partner, People and Culture Co‑ordinator, People and Culture Administrator, Facilities Co‑ordinator and Governance Officer. We also work with external specialists in areas such as pay and benefits, pensions and learning and development.
This role offers a mix of strategic and hands‑on work. You will lead some ongoing key people projects, support our managers and help move our people agenda forward. You will also have responsibility for Facilities and Health and Safety (which are outsourced).
Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, you will lead the day‑to‑day people function and be the main point of contact for people‑related activity. This is a practical role with the opportunity to help shape and strengthen our People Services team.
What you will do
You will work closely with the Senior Management Team and the Director of People and Culture to run an effective, compliant and well‑supported people service.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Leading and managing the People and Culture and Facilities teams, ensuring high standards of service and strong teamwork
* Mentoring the People & Culture Partner as part of a succession plan
* Supporting organisational change and the ongoing development of the People and Culture function
* Leading key people projects, including:
o HR systems (HRIS)
o Pay and benefits
o Policies and procedures
o Improvements to ways of working
* Advising and coaching senior leaders and managers on all aspects of people management and building high‑performing teams
* Overseeing the full employee journey, including:
o Recruitment and induction
o Workforce planning
o Learning and development
o Apprenticeships
o Engagement and wellbeing
* Supporting managers to run effective performance and development conversations
* Developing a flexible and sustainable workforce model that meets the changing needs of the organisation
* Overseeing facilities, health and safety and related support services
* Managing the People and Culture and Facilities budgets
Who we are looking for
You will be an experienced and practical HR professional who enjoys working in partnership with leaders and supporting positive change.
You will bring:
* Proven experience in a senior HR or People role
* The ability to step into an interim role and make an impact quicklyExperience of leading or supporting people‑related projects (such as HR systems, payroll, learning systems and policy work)
* A confident and collaborative style, with the ability to influence at senior level
* Strong organisational and project management skills
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
* Sound knowledge of employment law and HR best practice
* A calm, professional and discreet approach to sensitive issues
* Confidence using HR systems and digital tools
* Experience in the charity or not‑for‑profit sector (desirable)
* CIPD qualified or equivalent experience
