Location: Marischal College, Broad Street, Aberdeen
Duration: Permanent, Full Time and Fixed Term, Part Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30, and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31, per annum / £17.31 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

Provide a high quality social work service within a social work unit or team to respond to the needs of children and their families in a timely manner and within statutory guidelines. Be accountable for work undertaken with children and families, which includes assessing needs, planning and delivering focused interventions to safeguard children and developing plans to promote positive outcomes.

We are looking for passionate social workers to join our Children and Families Teams. You will be supported by a Team Manager and colleagues to work directly with children, young people and their families, responding to their needs within statutory guidelines. This will include looked after children, children subject to child protection registration, as well as working within the legal framework of the Children’s Hearing system and Court processes. The post holder will work closely with children, young people and their parents and carers to assess their needs, plan, and deliver focused interventions to build resilience and reduce familial risk.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

1. BA Social Work qualification or equivalent DipSW, CQSW
2. SSSC Registration
3. PVG

The post holder will be expected to:

4. participate in responding to unplanned calls or events within the Unit and the
Partner Uni

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

5. A Commitment to the principles of the Social Work Unit model
6. The ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors within a child
protection framework
7. The ability to assess needs, formulate and implement effective social work
interventions
8. The ability to prioritise tasks, manage own workload and be accountable for quality
case work with children and families to achieve positive outcomes
9. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and build
rapport with a range of individuals including children and families and other professionals
