Offer description

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic and experienced Research Nurse or Clinical Trial Practitioner to work on the Haem-Match study at UCLH.

Haem-Match is a programme of work that aims to provide blood for transfusion that is more precisely matched to patients' blood groups. This is known as extended (red cell antigen) matching, using genetics to determine blood groups, and using an algorithm to allocate units of blood. The Haem-Match 1 study, which is the main purpose of this role, is a safety and performance study looking how an algorithm allocates blood for transfusion for adults with sickle cell disorder as part of their regular exchange transfusion programmes. The hypothesis is that using an algorithm would improve the chance of better matched blood reducing the chance of alloimmunisation (antibody formation) which is harmful side effect of blood transfusion that is seen relatively commonly in sickle cell disorder. The post holder will be in charge of recruitment, sample collection and data collection for this study. This feasibility study is funded through the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS Blood and Transplant and University College London Biomedical Research Centre.

The post holder will be responsible to lead and coordinate participant recruitment, care, and data collection for the HaemMatch feasibility study with support from the programme manager and the Chief Investigator.

The post holder will need to have excellent communication skills to liaise with participants but also with the MDT, clinical services and external institutions and departments that are key to this study.

We are looking for a motivated person who is able to project manage and work autonomously in a supportive environment.
