Governor – Local Community Engagement

We would be delighted to receive applications for the role of Governor.
We currently have a vacancy for an individual able to provide vision and strategic leadership to the College as a member of its Board of Governors.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong community engagement, with knowledge of or involvement in the Wakefield, Castleford and/or Selby local community, and experience in building collaborative partnerships to achieve shared goals with other organisations to contribute their skills and experience to our Group to help us achieve our vision: “To be an outstanding, first-choice education group, passionately serving all of our communities.”
While we are looking for a person with a strong community engagement to fill our current vacancy, we would also welcome applications from anyone who thinks they could make a positive contribution to our Board which we will retain should a suitable future vacancy arise.
Being a Governor is a voluntary role, unpaid but highly rewarding, and this is a particularly exciting time to be involved with the College. We have a challenging agenda including:
1. Further improving the quality of teaching and learning at the College, with the aim of giving our students better outcomes, be that in continuing their education at the College or at university, or in gaining employment.
2. Understanding the needs of employers, to help local businesses grow and contribute to economic prosperity in our districts.
3. Forming strategic partnerships within our districts to help shape key initiatives.
4. Forming strong relationships with our districts’ schools and, where appropriate, work with them in the provision of education.
5. Developing sustainability within the College and our communities.
If you have the ability and commitment to contribute towards these goals, we would love to hear from you.
A detailed job description, providing further information about the vacancy and the required attributes of candidates, accompanies this document.
Thank you for your interest.
The deadline for applications is 6th February 2026. Interviews will be held shortly after.
The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all students and this post will be subject to Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS.
