Lufton College is a 52-week residential specialist college providing quality care and education for young people aged 16 to 25 with autism or related difficulties. Our students often have complex needs, learning difficulties, and behaviors of concern. Our curriculum prepares students for adulthood, focusing on skill development in various settings, including homes and vocational placements. Outdoor activities such as animal therapy and nature-based programs are integral to our approach.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Lead on strategic curriculum development for core areas (Literacy and Numeracy) and quality assurance across the college.
2. Undertake quality assurance activities, including curriculum review, learning walks, observations, and student progress analysis.
3. Line manage and support professional development of SEN Tutors and Teachers, including leading training for tutors aiming for Level 5 apprenticeships and QTLS.
4. Deliver coaching and training aligned with the college’s continuous improvement plan.
5. Act as Education Head during the absence of the Assistant Principal, ensuring effective and safe educational provision.
6. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to enhance young people's skills and horizons.
7. Participate in the Senior Management team, attending meetings and supporting governance targets.
8. Deliver specialized teaching to students up to 20% of the timetable, including co-teaching to develop pedagogical skills.
Requirements:
* Post-Graduate Certificate in Education
* Degree in a relevant subject
* Minimum 2 years’ experience as a curriculum lead or similar role, with responsibility for quality and teacher training (NPQ preferred)
* At least 3 years’ experience as a qualified teacher
* Understanding of Gatsby Benchmarks for SEND
* Knowledge of Autism, Learning Disabilities, and adapted learning strategies
* Awareness of safeguarding policies, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and the prevent agenda
* Valid and current driving license
