Overview
Hours: Mon-Fri 5:45am-15:15; includes a 1-hour lunch break. Based in Manchester with travel to Energy from Waste facilities across the UK. This is an opportunity to contribute to a company focused on unlocking the potential of waste and leaving a better planet for future generations. Reporting to the APCr Manager, you will drive the collection of APCR (Air Pollution Control Residue) from Energy from Waste sites and deliver to OCO Technology facilities. You will provide a high-quality, reliable service while adhering to health, safety and site regulations. We are looking for professional drivers committed to safety, service excellence and operational efficiency.
Based at our Manchester depot, you will drive an ash tanker from Energy/Waste facilities to O.C.O Technology treatment plants in Wretham, Leeds and Avonmouth, where the APCr is turned into aggregate, and periodically to our landfill in Bishop’s Cleeve, near Cheltenham. You will conduct daily vehicle checks, report defects or damage, and follow escalation procedures in line with legal and company requirements. You will ensure full compliance with the Transport Working Time Directive (WTD), tachograph legislation, and all Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments. You will adhere to all health & safety and company policies and accurately complete and submit all required documentation, including timesheets, defect reports and incident/near-miss logs in a timely manner. You will maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform weekly checks such as wheel nut torque inspections. You will deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders at all times. You will demonstrate flexibility in working hours, including overtime and overnight stays in safe, secure parking locations when required. You may undertake additional duties or projects as assigned by management, in line with your skills and capabilities.
Responsibilities

* Conduct daily vehicle checks; report defects or damage; follow escalation procedures in line with legal and company requirements.
* Ensure full compliance with WTD, tachograph legislation, SOPs and risk assessments; adhere to health & safety and company policies.
* Accurately complete and submit required documentation (timesheets, defect reports, incident/near-miss logs) in a timely manner.
* Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform weekly checks (e.g., wheel nut torque inspections).
* Deliver excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrate flexibility in working hours, including overtime and overnight stays when required.
* Undertake additional duties or projects as assigned by management, within skills and capabilities.
Qualifications
* Valid Class 1 (category C+E) licence
* Driver Qualification Card (DQC)
* Up-to-date Driver's Digi Card
* Experience of operating Articulated Bulk Powder tankers preferred, though training can be provided
* Long-distance driving and regular overnight stays away from home
* Strong knowledge of analogue and digital tachographs, current driving and working time regulations, and the Highway Code
* Basic understanding of health & safety and, ideally, waste legislation
* Effective communicator with good interpersonal skills and a professional, positive attitude
* Ability to interpret maps and directions and work independently or as part of a team
