About the Role
Trafford's Private Sector Housing Team have an exciting vacancy for a Housing Enforcement Officer to join the team on a 3‑year fixed term contract. The team currently consists of 1 Environmental Health Officer, 5 Housing Enforcement Officers and 1 Trainee Housing Standards Enforcement Officer, who work to support the Team Leader in enforcing a wide range of legislative requirements related to private sector housing, which now includes enforcement of the Renters' Rights Act. This role will be primarily focused on homelessness prevention, including inspections of potential and existing temporary accommodation and providing advice on tenancy relations matters, as well as enforcement in relation to them where required. Additional duties may include inspections of privately rented properties where disrepair is reported to the Council and related enforcement.
Qualifications
Band 6
* Educated to minimum A Level standard or equivalent
* Minimum of 12 months' experience working in a housing related field
* Specialist knowledge relevant to specific areas work (e.g. housing standards)
* Able to communicate effectively at all levels (verbal and written) with a variety of people from a range of backgrounds – using engaging communication and influencing styles with colleagues, managers and members of the public and communicating to customers in a clear and sensitive manner
Band 7 (inclusive of above)
* Degree level qualification in Environmental Health / Housing (or similar)
* Certificate of competency in the application of HHSRS (Housing Health & Safety Rating System)
* Demonstrable experience in enforcement of private sector housing
* Ability to assess appropriate method of enforcement action
Band 8 (inclusive of above)
* Significant experience in enforcement of private sector housing
* Ability to motivate and supervise colleagues, sharing knowledge and learning with trainees/newly qualified colleagues
