1:1 EHCP/IEP Teaching Assistant - Barnoldswick Alternative Provision (October Start)
About the Role:
Are you a resilient and compassionate professional with a knack for building rapport with young people? We are looking for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support to a student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or Individualised Education Program (IEP) at our Alternative Provision in Barnoldswick.
This isn't a traditional school environment. We work with students who have a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs, and who may have become disengaged from mainstream education. Your role will be to provide vital one-on-one support, helping a student navigate their learning and personal development in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental setting. This is a highly rewarding position for someone with experience in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide individualised support to a student, helping them to access a tailored curriculum.
2. Implement the strategies outlined in the student's EHCP or IEP, focusing on both academic progress and personal development.
3. Use de-escalation techniques and a trauma-informed approach to manage challenging behaviours.
4. Build a strong, trusting relationship with the student to support their social and emotional well-being.
5. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and external agencies.
6. Monitor and record the student's progress and report back to the lead teacher and SENCO.
What We're Looking For:
7. Essential Experience: Proven experience as a teaching assistant or youth worker, specifically with young people who have challenging behaviours or special educational needs.
8. A strong understanding of the principles of Alternative Provision.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
10. An understanding of EHCPs and IEPs.
11. A resilient and empathetic nature with a commitment to making a positive impact on a student's life.
Start Date: October 2025 or sooner.
