The Role
We are seeking a resilient, committed, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join Teaching Personnel on a full-time, long-term basis. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils who may face barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural challenges.
You will work closely with class teachers and a multidisciplinary team to support pupils with a range of needs, specifically focusing on SEMH, ADHD, and attachment difficulties. Your role will be pivotal in helping students regulate their emotions and re-engage with their education.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs, focusing on behavioral targets.
Support pupils’ social and emotional regulation, using de-escalation techniques when required.
Help create a positive, "nurture-first" classroom environment.
Work collaboratively with teachers, mental health leads, and parents to track progress.
Encourage independence and promote positive learning behaviours through praise and consistent boundaries.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have experience working with children with SEMH (within a school, youth work, or residential setting).
Be patient, resilient, and thick-skinned, with a nurturing approach to challenging behaviour.
Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.
Hold relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, or Team-Teach training – desirable but not essential).
Have a deep understanding of safeguarding and the impact of trauma on childhood development.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
