The Role
As the Health & Safety Team Lead, you will play a key role in driving Health, Safety, and Environmental performance across the site. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will lead HSE initiatives, ensure legal compliance, promote a proactive safety culture, and support continuous improvement throughout the operation.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who can influence at all levels, challenge where necessary, and work collaboratively with operational teams to deliver meaningful improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Champion a positive and proactive safety culture across the site
* Act as the lead for all HSE matters and influence behaviours at all levels
* Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to embed HSE into daily operations
* Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety and environmental legislation
* Support risk assessments, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work processes
* Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety tours, ensuring actions are completed effectively
* Lead and support incident investigations and root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventative actions
* Monitor HSE performance data and identify trends for improvement
* Manage statutory reporting requirements
* Oversee environmental compliance relating to waste, emissions, and resource usage
* Support sustainability initiatives and environmental improvement projects
* Support behavioural safety initiatives and workforce engagement
* Maintain HSE systems, records, and documentation
* Support ISO audits and ensure documentation remains compliant and accessible
About You
We are seeking candidates with at least 3 years’ HSE experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment. You will be a confident communicator with a practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to escalate concerns when required.
* Proven HSE experience within manufacturing or industrial environments
* Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
* Experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions
* NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety
* Strong Microsoft Office skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Awareness of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems (Desirable)
* Experience within plastics, packaging, or food manufacturing (Desirable)
* Quality leadership experience (Desirable)
