Job summary
South Central Fleet Services Ltd is looking for Fleet Engineers to join our team at our workshop in Didcot, maintaining vehicles for South Central Ambulance Service.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team ensuring ambulances are available to support patients. The workshop operates 7 days a week with shifts on a rotation basis.
Our fleet engineers play a vital role in supporting the ambulance service by maintaining and repairing specialist vehicles and equipment to high standards, ensuring maximum vehicle availability. The role involves working with a diverse range of vehicles and ancillary equipment such as tail-lifts, stretchers, air lines, and advanced electronic components.
Main duties of the job
1. Carry out maintenance and repairs of ambulances and other vehicles as specified by SCFS Ltd, adhering to required standards.
2. Attend breakdown scenes when required to perform repairs, following safety guidelines.
3. Prepare new vehicles for service and old vehicles for disposal.
4. Maintain records related to vehicle maintenance and repairs.
5. Ensure health and safety procedures are followed, reporting hazards or accidents immediately.
6. Follow security procedures.
7. Attend training courses related to vehicle and equipment maintenance.
8. Make repair decisions in the absence of the Fleet Supervisor.
9. Participate in the Duty Mechanic standby rota system.
10. Contribute to income generation activities relevant to fleet maintenance.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
* City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft studies parts 1, 2 & 3, or Motor Vehicle Technicians qualification, or BTEC equivalents.
* Full Driving Licence
Knowledge (Essential):
* Relevant workshop experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
Skills (Essential):
* Organised and methodical
* Ability to work independently
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Other requirements
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to the nature of the work supporting vulnerable populations.
