About the Role
This is a highly rewarding position supporting the class teacher throughout the school day. You’ll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure the pupils can access their education and develop to their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Help the pupil access the curriculum at an appropriate level
2. Support the pupil’s communication, social, and emotional development
3. Monitor and record the pupil’s progress and wellbeing
4. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and healthcare professionals
5. Support the pupil during breaks, lunchtimes, and school activities
6. Adapt activities and resources to meet the pupil’s specific needs
7. Promote independence whilst ensuring safety at all times
Essential Requirements
8. Previous experience working with children
9. Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education
10. Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships
11. Physical capability to support personal care and mobility needs
12. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
13. Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
14. Flexibility and problem-solving skills
15. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable Qualifications
16. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
17. First Aid qualification
18. Experience with communication aids or alternative communication methods
