Buyer
Location: Portsmouth (Hybrid)
Salary: £25,000-£40,000

My client, a specialist engineering organisation operating within the maritime and defence sector, is looking for a Buyer to join its procurement team. This role will focus on sourcing materials, components, and services while building strong supplier relationships and supporting business‑wide procurement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase goods, materials and services to meet cost, quality and delivery objectives
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
- Negotiate pricing, contracts and delivery schedules
- Raise purchase orders and manage procurement documentation
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply chain issues
- Support supplier audits and performance reviews
- Maintain accurate procurement data within ERP systems
- Contribute to continuous improvement across purchasing processes
Requirements
- Experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Understanding of UK contract law and procurement regulations
- Experience using ERP systems and procurement software
- Strong Microsoft Excel and administrative skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- SAP experience and CIPS qualifications advantageous
