Wood is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their team on a staff basis in Reading Green Park office. LI-Hybrid The Role As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for Electrical Power System studies and Electrical activities in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for Pre FEED, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects within the energy sector. You will ensure the work is in accordance with design standards and codes whilst co-ordinating with the rest of the project engineering teams. You'll need to utilise your extensive previous experience in FEED and EPC projects within the Oil & Gas Industry to develop, prepare, review and deliver design deliverables and packages and carry out Power System Studies using speciality software like ETAP or equivalent Powered by a global team, we deliver some of the world's boldest and most critical projects in many diverse and evolving sectors, including: Upstream / Midstream / Downstream Oil & Gas Chemicals Renewable Energy Power Mining & Minerals Industrials & Manufacturing Life Sciences Transportation Water Government services Our Clients & Projects Designing the future. Further benefits include a generous contributory pension scheme, private medical cover, 4x base salary life insurance; all of these and more that can be adapted to suit your own lifestyle Commitment to continued professional development; development plans that are tailored to your individual needs and interests Global connections; join experts around the world who are at the leading edge of our industry, shaping the standards of our profession Responsibilities Review design packages for electrical systems and equipment (i.e., Power & Distribution Transformers, motors, generators, high voltage/low voltage switchgear / Motor Control Center (MCC), distribution network, control equipment, power outlets etc.) including drawings, datasheets, detail scope of work, calculations, Bill of Material / Quantity and preliminary cost estimates, Hazardous Area Classification and power System Study Prepare the Project Design Basis Document as per the project scope Prepare the entire project load lists based on the project scope Produce technical reports for the scope of work, and technical specifications for specific electrical equipment Carry out Power System Studies and Network Analysis and Solutions using ETAP /Paladin/SKM/PSS'E Software on various Pre-FEED, FEED, EPC and EPCm projects. Power System Studies to include Load Flow Study, Short Circuit Study, Relay Coordination Study, Harmonic Study, Arc Flash Study, System Grounding, Dynamic Motor Starting Study, Dynamic Motor Re-Acceleration Study and Transient Stability Study Manage and review study work carried out by other Third-Party consultants for Electromagnetic Transient studies conducted on PSCAD/EMTP-RV Software for Pre-FEED, FEED, EPC and EPCm projects for implementing solutions and recommendations in FEED/EPC deliverables. Experience of Electromagnetic Transient studies review to include Lightning & Switching Transients Study, Insulation Coordination Study, Transformer Energisation Study, Transient Recovery Voltage Analysis for Circuit Breakers, Fast Motor Bus Transfer Simulations, Capacitor/Reactor/Line Switching Study, Study for Resonance and Ferroresonance Conditions Assist in the electrical activities of engineering, procurement, and eventual construction (EPC) contractors during the Front-End Engineering Development (FEED) and Detail design phase Coordinate with Project managers to finalize the Electrical Engineering scope for the entire project / package Carry out analysis of major equipment selected in the design package Review and respond to technical and site queries Experience in project execution in accordance with client’s and worldwide industrial standards Monitor and review in coordination with client’s PMT the performance and work quality of the contractor Ensure that the design work by contractor is in accordance with client’s design standards, applicable codes/regulations, and acceptable work practices Assist the Project Managers and Project Engineers in evaluating Material Requisitions (MR), Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) and Award Recommendation (AR) provided by Contractor and able to perform Procurement support Review and evaluate Change Orders to ensure full compliance with standards and that costs are in line with project budget Work closely with Engineering Teams during the project to ensure facility integrity in terms of HSE Provide technical assurance for electrical discipline deliverables for projects Recommend new improvement solutions for installations or modifications to improve existing facilities and standards Implement Power system automation for Electrical Power Generation and Distribution System Provide Electrical support to small Study and Concept Projects and at times lead such small Concept/Study projects as required for the delivery of Electrical scope Qualifications What makes you remarkable? It will take all of us working together to deliver solutions to the world’s most critical challenges Expected: Bachelor’s degree within the Electrical Engineering field or a BA in Science with a focus in Electrical Engineering Experience in design, engineering and construction Must have Pre FEED, FEED, EPC and EPCm project experience Must have experience with Electrical Transient Analysis Program (ETAP) or similar software and all Microsoft office Must have Pre FEED, FEED, EPC and EPCm project experience of carrying our Power System Studies and driving project decisions based on study recommendations Engineer must be familiar with NEC, IEEE/ANSI, IEC and other International electrical standards, best practices and value practices Thorough knowledge of the English language is required to perform the necessary in depth analysis and studies, make professional presentations and keep up with technical advancements Experience of technical management of Third-party Power system study consultants Desirable: Chartered Engineer Experience of site support and construction during EPC phase of projects Familiar with analogue and Digital Control Systems including Power System Automation (PSA), DCS, PLC and SCADA controls Experience with Middle East based clients and Projects including Saudi Aramco
