Teamforce Labour is actively seeking an experienced Pit Boss for an immediate start in Fleetwood, Lancashire (FY7).
This role is supporting a major and complex emergency infrastructure repair involving a burst water main located approximately 6 metres underground in the vicinity of The Strand and Broadway.
The project presents significant engineering challenges, including:
Excavation at depth (6m) within a congested utility corridor
Close proximity to live gas and electricity infrastructure
Continuous tidal water ingress, requiring round-the-clock pumping operations
24-hour, shift-based working to maintain site safety and progressThis is a critical infrastructure repair requiring a highly experienced and safety-focused tunnelling supervisor capable of managing complex ground conditions and confined space operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate works associated with deep excavation and timber heading installation
Oversee safe operations within a 6m excavation in a live utility environment
Ensure continuous safe management of tidal water ingress and pumping activities
Lead and manage site teams working on a 24-hour rota
Maintain strict compliance with confined space regulations and tunnelling safety procedures
Ensure safe systems of work are implemented and adhered to at all times
Liaise with site management, engineers, and utility stakeholders
Monitor productivity, safety standards, and quality of workmanshipRequirements: To be considered for this role, you must:
Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar Pit Boss or tunnelling supervisory role
Have demonstrable experience working in deep excavations and complex utility environments
Hold a valid SMSTS
Hold valid First Aid certification
Hold valid Confined Space certification (Medium or High Risk preferred)
Hold valid TSTS (Tunnel Safety Training Scheme)
Be able to commit to 24-hour shift patterns where required
Provide an up-to-date CV
