Overview
Our client, based in Yarnton, is the world leader in motion capture technology, developing high-performance software and hardware products for the entertainment, engineering and life science industries. Due to continued growth, they are now looking for an experienced Production Electronic Engineer to join their team. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Production Electronic Engineer will be responsible for testing, repairing and debugging the full range of the Company’s supported products with PCB-level debug experience.
The role is fully on-site; candidates must be able to commute to Yarnton. No sponsorship is available.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Supervise the Test team with technical and observational support during all periods.
* Ensure ongoing quality of product in stock via final test: ensuring units are tested to the latest version, analysing the final test report,. visual inspection of units and correct set‑up of lenses.
* Diagnose faults in product assemblies and sub‑assemblies to component level and manage the repair/replacement either by returning the item to the manufacturer via the Stock Manager or correcting the fault in-house. Debug PCB failures promptly.
* Maintain the camera test facilities and ensure they are working to specification by routinely performing and documenting control tests and raising tickets where necessary.
* Write test specifications and instructions where necessary for products, ensuring documentation is kept up to date on MDR and QMS.
* Generate reports (as necessary) to convey details on investigations, tests, observations and conclusions to management/development.
* Maintain the repair process with a view to gaining maximum information by feedback of faults/root causes identified to improve ongoing quality and prevent recurrence.
* Manage the RMA system (monitor receipts, prioritise and ensure timely turnaround/repair).
* Provide technical advice to the Production Manager, Quality Manager, Supply Chain and Stock Manager, as well as Supplier Visits as required.
* Contribute as a core member of new product teams to ensure DFM and DFT practices are considered and to provide a smooth transition from prototype to production.
* Liaise with PM to reference the improvement of existing operations and the incorporation of new methods and processes where needed.
* Be actively involved with the design of tests for prototype/production products.
* Assist in the development of testing protocols for new products.
* Assist in the risk prevention/design improvement process by actively feeding back observations from the prototype/current build and testing methods.
* Assist with the ongoing improvement of current/new products with input into the design of tools/jigs/gauges.
Previous Experience/Qualifications
* Ideally a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering or equivalent experience in production engineering with 5+ years of experience.
* Being able to read schematics is an advantage (CAD and Altium preferred).
* Board-level test and debug experience essential, with SMT and through‑hole rework experience.
* Self‑motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
* Organised and tidy.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to produce reports when necessary.
