Are you passionate about supporting young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing? We’re looking for a caring, resilient, and proactive Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Reading.

About the Role:
You’ll work closely with students aged 11–16 who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your role will involve supporting students in class, mentoring one-to-one, and helping them develop the confidence, resilience, and coping skills they need to thrive both in and out of school.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Providing one-to-one and small group support focused on emotional regulation and mental wellbeing
Assisting with classroom learning, behaviour management and pastoral care
Building trusting, positive relationships with students and acting as a role model
Working alongside teachers, pastoral leads and therapeutic staff to deliver tailored support

Why This Role Matters:
Secondary school can be a challenging time for many young people — especially those managing mental health difficulties. In this role, you’ll be a vital source of stability, encouragement, and support, helping students navigate their school journey with greater confidence and positivity.

What’s in It for You?
️ Direct, hands-on experience in mental health support within education
️ A brilliant platform for careers in psychology, youth work, social care, or education
️ Ongoing training, CPD, and professional development opportunities
️ Join a passionate, supportive team who are committed to making a difference

About You:
Patient, compassionate and able to stay calm in challenging situations
Strong communication skills and a natural ability to build rapport with young people
Experience working with young people or in a mental health/SEN setting (desirable but not essential)
Available to start full-time ASAP

Ready to Get Involved?
Apply today and help make school a safe, positive, and supportive place for young people who need it most.
