Roles & Responsibilites
As a Session Leader in this unique, outdoor-based Alternative Provision (AP), you will take a proactive role in managing dynamics, leading learning, and incorporating the natural environment into your teaching. You will
* Deliver and adapt pre-planned lessons, therapeutic interventions, and practical activities utilizing nature, open spaces, and outdoor classrooms.
* Confidently utilize therapeutic and domestic animals within your sessions to promote emotional regulation, build confidence, and enhance student engagement.
* Implement advanced, trauma-informed strategies to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, fostering a safe and secure environment in an outdoor setting.
* Recognize behavioral triggers early and utilize positive handling and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors safely and respectfully within an open environment.
* Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and animal/outdoor specialists to adapt resources and track pupil progress.
* Monitor student engagement, emotional well-being, and academic progress, providing detailed feedback and contributing to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs)
What you need
To excel in this specialized alternative provision environment, you must possess the following qualifications and experience
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status, or an equivalent relevant degree/professional qualification
* Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and young people with severe SEMH needs, complex SEND, or within an Alternative Provision/PRU setting.
* Proven experience or a high level of comfort working in outdoor learning environments and interacting with therapeutic farm and domestic animals
* Proven experience in using positive behavior management and evidence of training in recognized de-escalation frameworks (e.g., Team Teach, PRICE, or MAPA).
* Right to work in the UK
* An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to obtain one)
* Excellent communication, resilience, physical stamina for outdoor work, and emotional intelligence.
