Birmingham City Council is seeking a dynamic and relational leader to join our Children and Families Directorate as the Head of Service for Attendance and Inclusive Pathways. In this vital role, you will be the strategic lead for this new and exciting service and manage a team to provide high-quality attendance support services to local schools, working with schools to prevent exclusions and ensuring access to Alternative Provision where needed. You need to have strong interest and experience in attendance, inclusion and alternative provision with a developed understanding of recent policy and practice developments in this space. As the Head of Service for Attendance and Inclusive Pathways, you will be responsible for three new teams for attendance, inclusion and alternative provision. There is a lot to do and there is a desire and commitment to get this right for children and young people in the city. Your efforts will help foster a strong relational context and contribute significantly to the achievement of positive educational outcomes for children in our community. We are looking for candidates with a high standard of education, and at least three years’ experience working in this field and work with children and families, schools and multi-agency collaboration. You should also have management experience in education or family support services and staff development skills. You should have the ability to demonstrate experience of statistical reporting and analysing/presenting data for performance management purposes. You should have a thorough understanding of relevant policies and legislative frameworks, as well as experience in supervising individuals and managing conflicting demands. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be producing professional documents, delivering training, and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders.
