Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Farm Accountant to manage the financial operations of our growing agricultural business. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant with knowledge of farm management, agricultural finance, and rural business operations.
You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning to support long-term farm profitability and sustainability.
Responsibilities
* Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software such as Sage
* Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
* Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
* Prepare and analyse financial statements and reports to support decision-making.
* Prepare and Submit VAT and tax returns
* Manage budgeting and forecasting activities for agricultural projects and operations.
* Manage cashflow and cost controls
* Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.
* Liaise with external auditors, banks, and financial advisors
* Maintain accurate inventory and asset records (crops, machinery)
* Mentor team members in accounting procedures and best practices.
* Collaborate with other departments to optimise financial processes and reporting accuracy.
* Handle government grant applications and agricultural subsidies
Experience
* Professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* Proficiency in accounting software Sage
* Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices.
* Experience with financial services relevant to agriculture is desirable.
* Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues and support team development initiatives.
* Excellent analytical and organizational skills
* Prior experience in accounts payable, financial reporting, and compliance is essential.
