An opportunity has arisen to join the Ophthalmology department at Colchester Hospital as an Operational Co-ordinator, responsible for the coordination of the service. This is a rewarding role ensuring that our services are safely covered over a 24/7 period by working closely with specialties and members of the clinical and administrative teams.
This opportunity will allow you to play a major role in the continuing development of service delivery for the benefit of our patients, where care and compassion are central to everything we do. You will have the opportunity to further develop your operational and management skills in a supportive and innovative atmosphere.
Please note, this is a fixed-term/secondment position until 31st December 2025. Internal candidates will be offered a secondment only.
Main duties of the job
1. As an Operational Coordinator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of key operational aspects, including primarily the coordination of the Divisional rotas and medical resources.
2. You will have line management responsibilities for administrative colleagues, highlighting any issues to the Service Manager.
3. You will ensure that daily activities run smoothly by liaising with multiple stakeholders within and outside the Trust.
4. Experience within a healthcare setting is preferred. You should be a skilled communicator with determination and excellent skills in MS Office, especially Excel.
5. Relevant experience is ideal, but transferable skills will also be considered.

Person Specification
Experience
* Essential: Managing staff, working under tight deadlines, working in multidisciplinary environments.
* Desirable: Managing NHS staff, medical secretary experience.
Qualifications
* Essential: Management/Business/Administration degree or equivalent experience, leadership training or commitment.
* Desirable: Prince 2 or project management qualification.
Knowledge
* Essential: Knowledge of NHS and DOH, performance management.
* Desirable: NHS IT systems.
