Our public sector client is looking for an Insurance & Claims Officer to join them on a temporary basis.
Location – LE1
Role is office based at City Hall, working 5 days per week. Hours are 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:30 to 16:30 Friday, with one hour for lunch.
This role is within the in-house claims handling team for the Council. Ideally, candidates will have a minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience.
We are seeking a candidate with liability and personal injury experience related to negligence policies such as public liability, employers liability, or motor.
Purpose of the role:
To investigate and recommend actions on insurance claims brought against the council, especially those that are disputed or potentially fraudulent.
Main Duties:
* Manage and record information on an allocated caseload of insurance claims against the council, including investigating potential fraud cases.
* Determine liability by reviewing cases, evidence, and investigation findings.
* Collaborate with council department staff on relevant cases.
* Meet, interview, and negotiate with claimants and their representatives.
* Prepare cases for court challenges, including injury compensation claims.
* Instruct Loss Adjusters when necessary.
* Identify and suggest actions to reduce incidents or improve procedures for team effectiveness.
* Arrange site meetings to establish circumstances of specific incidents.
* Perform other miscellaneous tasks related to the role.
Responsibilities & Objectives:
* Ensure insurance claims are properly prepared, justified, and pursued with insurers.
* Reject claims from the public that lack legal liability.
* Accurately record all incident details promptly and ensure reports comply with the DPA.
* Handle difficult claimants professionally.
* Stay updated on relevant legislation, guidelines, and best practices.
* Adhere to and promote the council’s policies and procedures.
* Interact professionally with people at all levels and backgrounds.
* Recognize and address discrimination, actively supporting equality policies.
Experience:
* Experience dealing with claims for an insurance company or large organization.
* Proficiency with office ICT applications such as email, internet, Word, spreadsheets, and databases.
* Progress towards or willingness to complete ACII qualification or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Understanding of common law negligence.
* Knowledge of risk management principles.
