Overview
Tetra Tech is recruiting a Statistical Lead to sit at the heart of our Water Consultancy and provide statistical leadership across AMP8/AMP9 programmes. You will define, audit and standardise statistical methods for time-series, non-parametric and probabilistic analyses, review model outputs, prepare client reports and advise on regulatory reporting. Day-to-day, you will collaborate with analysts, modellers and project teams to ensure rigorous, pragmatic statistical practice on multi-site, multi-million pound programmes.
Your impact in this position
You will immediately improve the rigour and consistency of project outputs and regulatory returns. Over the medium term, you will embed preferred workflows, mentor analysts, and enhance client confidence in statistical reporting.
Core Capabilities
* Statistical methodology – Deep expertise in non-parametric methods, lognormal and binomial distributions, robust outlier identification and interpretation of confidence intervals.
* Probabilistic & predictive modelling – Practical experience with probabilistic techniques, regression, time-series approaches and machine-learning methods applied to water data.
* Audit & assurance – Proven ability to audit modelling processes, validate code and model outputs, and maintain traceable, defensible reporting standards.
* Communication & mentorship – Skill in translating complex statistical concepts into clear guidance, preparing client-facing documents and mentoring analysts in method selection.
* Technical interoperability – Familiarity with Python, Excel macros and data workflows, with aptitude for working across modelling code, data pipelines and regulatory formats.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience
Expected: degree in statistics, mathematics or a related technical discipline. Desirable: postgraduate qualification and membership, or working towards membership, of a relevant professional body.
Work patterns & locations
Hybrid role with regional UK locations; typically 2–3 days per week in the office and regular client engagement. Flexible working is considered to support delivery and professional development.
