1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant – Nursery
Location: Hartlepool
Pay Rate: £14.24 - £15.50 per hour
Dates: 20th April – 17th July 2026 (potentially until Christmas)
Hours: 8.30 - 3.30

Humly is currently partnering with a welcoming Primary School in Hartlepool that is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their Nursery team. This is a specialized role focused on providing consistent, high-quality support to a single pupil, ensuring they have the very best start to their educational journey.
The Role
As a 1:1 SEND Nursery Teaching Assistant, you will be the primary support for a child with additional needs within a vibrant Nursery setting. Your goal is to bridge the gap between the child's specific requirements and the Early Years curriculum, fostering an environment where they feel safe, understood, and able to thrive.
Key Responsibilities

1:1 Personalised Support: Implement tailored activities that cater to the child’s specific SEND requirements and Individual Education Plan (IEP).

EYFS Integration: Help the pupil engage with "Learning through Play" and ensure they can access all areas of the Nursery provision.
*
Communication & Sensory Support: Utilize specialized communication tools (such as PECS or Makaton) or sensory strategies as required by the pupil’s needs.
*
Personal Care & Wellbeing: Assist with personal care, mobility, or emotional regulation, maintaining the child’s dignity and comfort at all times.
*
Observation & Reporting: Work closely with the SENCO and Class Teacher to track progress and adjust support strategies.

Inclusion: Foster social interaction between the pupil and their peers to encourage social development.
Requirements
*
Experience: Previous experience working with SEND pupils, ideally within an Early Years or Nursery setting.
*
Temperament: A calm, proactive, and incredibly patient nature.
*
Knowledge: An understanding of the EYFS framework and various SEND needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, or Global Developmental Delay).
*
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with the child, parents, and school staff.
*
Safeguarding: A commitment to the highest standards of safeguarding and a willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
