Brief Description
The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure optimal indoor air quality and climate control within residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the comfort, safety, and efficiency of building environments by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing system issues, and implementing effective solutions. The HVAC Technician contributes to the overall operational excellence of the facility by adhering to industry standards, safety protocols, and delivering high-quality service to meet customer needs.
Functions And Responsibilities
Assign, Supervise, and Perform Preventive Maintenance
* Regularly perform scheduled maintenance tasks promptly to prevent failures.
* Inspect facilities and systems within scope with an eye towards optimizing system lifespan. Make recommendations to optimize serviceability.
* Monitor system performance, adjust settings, and address potential issues early to maintain efficiency and avoid system downtime / future service disruption.
* Assists with training, mentoring new staff on systems, components, controls, and technologies.
* Assists with evaluating the appropriateness of preventative maintenance schedules, assigning staff to these events.
* Coordinate with the OPS Center team to enable ordering of requisite items and tools.
* Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.

* Identify root causes using diagnostics; repair system components to restore operations promptly.
* Address maintenance requests and emergencies quickly to minimize downtime and maintain safety and productivity.
* Conduct applicable repairs and replace worn fixtures to maintain facility condition and functionality.
* Assists with training, mentoring new staff on systems, components, controls, and technologies.
* Assists with evaluating the prioritization of reactive maintenance Work Orders, assigning staff to these events
* Coordinate with the OPS Center team to enable ordering of requisite items and tools.
* Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.
Optimize Efficiency Within the Operations Department
* Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring tools and materials are stored safely to prevent accidents.
* Monitor inventory levels, track usage, reorder supplies timely, and coordinate with suppliers to prevent downtime.
* Assists with training, mentoring new staff on related protocols and use of the CMMS.
* Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.
Adhere to Safety Standards
* Ensure all work complies with applicable regulations and building codes.
* Regularly review procedures and safety device functionality.
* Attend all training sessions and consistently follow safety protocols, including PPE use and safety checks.
* Assists with training, mentoring new staff on related standards and expectations; ensures those standards are adhered to.
* Report safety questions and violations promptly to management.
Identify and Implement Improvement Opportunities
* Analyze operations for efficiency gains; propose and implement energy-efficient upgrades, optimized maintenance, and new technologies.
* Refine maintenance procedures to boost productivity, reduce downtime, and enhance facility upkeep. Stay updated on industry advancements.
* Communicate significant issues or needed upgrades to management, offering recommendations to ensure facility safety and functionality.
Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED
* Must be able to manage heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
* Proficiency in upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance of HVAC machinery, equipment, and facility control systems.
* Must possess, or be able to obtain, requisite vocational or technical training and certifications.
* Must be able to operate in various indoor, outdoor environments and conditions.
* Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license required.
* Must be available for on-call work, as required.
* Must have familiarity with basic Microsoft Office applications and computers.
* Must be able to effectively model and communicate The Center for Discovery’s philosophy, culture and practices.

* Occasional exposure to environmental /equipment noise and odors.
* Occasional use of computers and other office equipment.
Work Environment
* Exposure to various environments and conditions (including but not limited to odors, temperature ranges, and noise levels).
* Exposure to human elements/excretions.
* Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Requirements
Entry level position should have strong background in oil heating-both hydronic and hot air.
