Freelance Quantity Surveyor - Groundwork's - South Yorkshire
PSR are looking for an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor who is well versed in groundwork's packages and has experience working at a Main Contractor. The role will focus on the commercial management and procurement of groundwork's and civil engineering packages, providing support from pre-construction through to live site delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the procurement of groundwork's and civil subcontract packages, including tender preparation, enquiry issuance, tender analysis, and subcontractor recommendations.
Negotiate subcontract terms to achieve best value while maintaining programme, quality, and commercial objectives.
Prepare, agree, and place subcontract orders in accordance with NEC or other relevant forms of contract.
Manage early engagement with groundwork's subcontractors to identify and mitigate commercial, design, and delivery risks.
Monitor and control groundwork's costs, including valuations, variations, change control, and final accounts.
Work closely with site, engineering, and planning teams to ensure groundwork's activities align with construction programmes, sequencing, and site constraints.
Support commercial reporting, including cost value reconciliation (CVR), cashflow forecasting, and procurement trackers.
Requirements
Proven experience as a groundwork's Quantity Surveyor within a Main Contractor or specialist groundwork's subcontractor environment.
Strong knowledge of groundwork's and civil engineering packages, including drainage, foundations, earthworks, and external works.
Solid working knowledge of NEC or comparable standard forms of contract.
Commercially astute with strong negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple packages, and operate to tight programme deadlines.
Immediate or short-notice availability is highly desirable.
