Job Description:
Job overview
The Neurology Department at University Hospitals Sussex is in a period of exciting development, following the merger of two adjacent hospital Trusts and the relocation of the Neuroscience Department to the new Louise Martindale Building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and personable locum neurology consultant to work between the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. The postholder will undertake both general neurology and specialist neuroinflammatory/MS clinics and contribute to the development and delivery of an increasingly complex diagnostic and therapeutic neurology service.
The establishment of University Hospitals Sussex as a new Trust provided the opportunity to better co-ordinate the care of neurology patients and ensure greater equity of provision of services. This is a welcome strategic development in Neurology where the consultant workforce across Sussex already work in collaboration to provide inpatient care.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to be a central part in developing a regional service.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
* General neurology and CNS Neuroinflammatory outpatient clinics, including admin
* MS drug prescribing and review
* MS nurse specialist support – hospital and community
* Multiple Sclerosis MDTs
* Neuroradiology meeting
* Supervision of junior doctors in relation to neurological care and participation in teaching and educational activity within the Trust as required
* Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital Ward Referrals
* Sussex Neurology on-call rota (see below)
* Consultant of the Week (see below)
This work will be supported by a medical secretary and an appropriate office space and IT.
On Call Commitment:
Additional remuneration for On Call 1 in 10 (non-resident), Category B – 1%.
