The NHS in Wales is offering 1 salaried post-graduate training programme in Radiotherapy Physics for high-calibre science graduates who are passionate about science and its role in patient care. The Trainee Clinical Scientist will be employed by the host organisation for a fixed term of three years. During this time, they will work through a work-based programme of learning. This will be combined with an academic programme at masters (MSc) level over the three-year period. The first part of the academic programme will introduce the basic science and theoretical background of the rotational disciplines and their application in clinical science within health, as well as providing an introduction to healthcare services and values. The master’s degree includes a research project within year 2/3. Advert Applications are invited for one Radiotherapy Physics training post in South Wales. The training will follow the Scientist Training Programme curriculum for the Radiotherapy Physics Specialty specified by the National School of Healthcare Science. Trainees will rotate through other areas of Medical Physics as well as their specialty. Mobility between training centres is expected, to cover all rotations. Velindre trainees will undertake placements at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff in addition to their Cardiff Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff, Velindre Nevill Hall Radiotherapy Unit and Abergavenny placements. Working for our organisation In conjunction with, and supported by, the designated Training Coordinator/Officer, the Trainee Clinical Scientist will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme. This will include completing the learning outcomes as outlined in the Learning Guides, progressing through a mixture of work-based competence and experience in NHS scientific departments and undertaking the complementary academic master’s programme at the designated Higher Education Institution. This is a three-year post-graduate programme, and the successful candidates will be employed by an NHS Wales organisation for the duration of their training and will be based in: 1x Velindre University NHS Trust, Velindre Cancer Centre The training is aligned with the Scientific Training Programme (STP) and supported by the National School of Healthcare Science.
