Title
Assistant Bridges Engineer
Requisition ID: 8076
Amey are a leading provider of full life‑cycle engineering, operations and decarbonisation solutions for transport infrastructure and complex facilities.
Working for us you’ll be delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance life and protect our shared future.
Our people are driven by a set of strong values, based on safety, insight and collaboration.
The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Structures Bridges Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. With shared office space in Cardiff, Bristol and Exeter, we welcome applications from Assistant Engineers across these regions.
The role will primarily involve working on the South West Scheme Delivery Framework for National Highways, with opportunities to work on complex schemes across the UK. As a team we co‑locate with our client at offices in Exeter and Bristol, attending the office three days a week with the remaining days worked remotely.
The work spans from feasibility and optioneering all the way through to design and construction. We work across the National Highways network in the South West, which includes large and unique viaducts, culverts, under‑ and over‑bridges of varying forms, ages, and complexities. We could be designing a strengthening scheme, completing maintenance refurbishments, or executing safety improvements. The variety of scopes and structures on the network means that no two projects are the same.
This opportunity would suit a developing Engineer working towards Chartership, with an understanding of the DMRB and Eurocodes with respect to highway bridge design, strengthening, refurbishment, and assessment. You would be part of a team of around 25 engineers locally of varying levels, supported by 350+ Structures Engineers across the UK with a variety of specialisms. Our focus is on developing and growing organically. As an Assistant Engineer you will contribute significantly to this process and gain valuable exposure for your career development.
The Role
Our Structures Engineers play an important part within the Highways and Designated Funds Design team and alongside our client, National Highways. As an Assistant Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highway structures schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.
