We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Psychologist to work on one of our inpatient units for Older People. You will join an experienced Inpatient service and be part of our wider team of Psychologists specialising in work with older people across inpatients and community services. We are a supportive team that values innovation, fosters development, and is passionate about the care of older people and their families.
Location
The post is based at The Meadows, a 24-bed inpatient unit in Epsom, divided into three smaller wards—two for people with dementia and one for people with complex mental health needs. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including Psychiatry, Nursing, OT, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Activities Coordinators, and Pharmacy.
Support and Development
This post will be supported and supervised by the Lead Psychologist for Older Adults inpatients, based at the unit. You will have a personalised development plan aligned with your career interests and service needs, a comprehensive induction, regular CPD sessions, and specialist supervision groups for neuropsychology and neurodiversity. You can join a peer support group for Band 7 Psychologists, and we maintain strong links to local training courses, valuing Trainee Psychologists' contributions.
Responsibilities
1. Conduct psychological assessments, therapeutic interventions, and cognitive assessments for people with dementia and mental health needs, along with their support networks.
2. Provide consultation, training, and formulation discussions for the ward team.
3. Support the team in using psychosocial approaches in daily practice.
4. Assist team managers and clinical leads in developing and delivering effective services.
5. Practice within a positive behaviour support and trauma-informed care framework.
6. Supervise an Assistant Psychologist supporting your psychological services delivery.
7. Lead quality improvement projects, including the culture of care programme, and contribute to psychology service development across older people's services.
8. Occasional travel throughout Surrey for meetings.
