Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adult Psychiatry Radnorshire

The successful post holder will join a forward thinking, motivated and experienced Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) in Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire in Powys. The acute service in this rural area is undergoing positive change, which is actively shaping services at present and the role will be both varied and interesting. The post holder will contribute to the mental health team's aspiration to be the best, but in addition, will enjoy the flexibility to develop their area of special interest. Your work will be highly appreciated by both the staff and by the local community.

The post covers a rural catchment area of approximately 29,000 and is a region of varying socio-economic status, covering the areas of Knighton, Presteigne, Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells, and Builth Wells.

Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys County Council, GP's, the voluntary sector and users and carers work closely together to plan and provide a range of mental health, learning disability, and substance misuse services in the area.

The post holder's background should preferably have both community (including memory assessment and crisis services) and acute inpatient work experience and have an excellent knowledge of assessment and treatment of organic and functional older adult mental states.

Main duties of the job

Community Mental Health Teams

Powys OAMH services are divided across Powys into five areas:

* Ystradgynlais – Based at Ystradgynlais Community Hospital, Ystradgynlais
* Breconshire – Based at Ty Cloc, Bronllys Hospital, Bronllys
* Newtown – Based at The Park Offices, Newtown
* Welshpool – Based at Bryntirion Resource Centre, Welshpool

Teams are multi-disciplinary and work in partnership with the Local Authority to provide holistic recovery focused care. Consultants are supported by Specialty Doctors to provide medical input to the team.

Two inpatient units, Tawe in Ystradgynlais Community Hospital and Clywedog in Llandrindod Community Hospital, provide beds (10 and 8 respectively) for those suffering from organic and / or functional mental health disorders. They are mixed gender wards and supported by the medics from the local community teams. There are close links between the adult and older adult inpatient services, with patients occasionally being placed based on need rather than age.
