This is a key position within the practice, combining administrative leadership and operational
management, with the opportunity to contribute to the practice's ongoing evolution. We are looking for
someone reliable, capable, confident and discreet, who enjoys taking ownership and pride in building
efficient, well-structured systems that support high-quality architectural work.

About Andrew Townsend Architects
Andrew Townsend Architects LLP is an established conservation-led architectural practice working on
prestigious and historically significant buildings across the UK.

Our work is rooted in a deep respect for the well-being of existing buildings and their settings. Our
new work in historic and sensitive places has a recognisable character, shaped by an appropriate
design idiom in which form, scale and detailing are compatible with the existing fabric. We aim to
create meaningful connections between new and old without resorting to pastiche or imitation.
Across all projects, we prioritise energy-efficient, cost-effective and safe systems of construction and
building use, ensuring that heritage buildings continue to serve contemporary needs.

The Role
This is a senior and varied position combining finance management, practice administration and office
operations.

Beyond maintaining the day-to-day running of the practice, the role offers the opportunity to help
modernise and refine internal systems, supporting the practice as it continues to grow and evolve. The
successful candidate will work closely with the Partners to ensure that operational processes, financial
management and digital systems are efficient, resilient and future-facing.

Key Responsibilities
Finance & Bookkeeping
Running payroll, pension submissions and VAT returns
Using Xero for book-keeping (training can be provided)
Recording staff hours and updating monthly spreadsheets
Preparing invoices, issuing fee statements and following up on payments
Managing banking and online payments
Liaising with the accountant and bank when required

Administration & Executive Support
Front-of-house reception and managing calls/emails
Preparing and amending reports, letters and documents
Coordinating diaries, meetings and site visits
Supporting monthly office meetings and preparing action plans
Liaising with IT support and service providers
Managing filing systems and office documentation
Ordering office supplies, technical information and samples
Managing cleaning, waste/recycling and general office upkeep
Managing the practice's social media and website

About You
We are seeking someone who:
Has demonstrable experience in office and financial management
Is confident managing payroll, VAT returns and bookkeeping processes
Is highly organised, methodical and attentive to detail
Is comfortable working independently and taking responsibility
Has an interest in improving systems and embracing appropriate digital tools
Communicates clearly and professionally with clients and consultants
Is proficient in Microsoft Office
Has experience with Xero (advantageous; training can be provided, if required)

This role may particularly suit someone who is curious about architecture and building conservation, and
who would value being part of a practice engaged in the stewardship and adaptation of significant historic buildings.

Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to take on a pivotal role within a respected conservation architecture practice
working on distinguished historic buildings. As part of a small, dedicated and collaborative team, you will have genuine responsibility and the opportunity to help shape the operational strength and future resilience of the practice.
