Senior Transport Planner
WSP is looking for a Principal or Senior Transport Planner to join our Transport and Mobility Planning Team. The role offers flexibility in location and can be based at WSP offices in Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton or London. WSP's hybrid working policy allows you to combine in‑office work with remote work.
Role Overview
In this role you will work alongside colleagues across the UK on the delivery of transport, traffic and related infrastructure projects, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and Development Consent Orders (DCOs). You will be involved in:
* Undertaking Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and participating in client and local authority scoping discussions.
* Leading technical discussions around the accessibility of project and construction sites for a wide range of modes, and articulating impacts and mitigations required to support planning approvals.
* Collaborating in a multi‑disciplinary environment, proactively working with adjacent disciplines such as noise and air quality, ecology, and highway teams.
* Owning delegated tasks such as preparing fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Managers and Directors.
* Upskilling to work across other transport workstreams such as communications and engagement to support a sustainable workflow for the local team.
* Representing our values in a client/consultant environment and maintaining collaboration.
* Keeping up to date with relevant standards and policies; networking and attending conferences to raise WSP’s profile.
* Ensuring projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards.
Qualifications
* Experience of scoping reports, transport assessments and environmental statement transport chapters.
* Experience delivering transport planning projects and knowledge of relevant guidelines and standards.
* Familiarity with local authority transport plans and strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and providing input into transport related business cases.
* Strong numerical, spatial and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office.
* Ability to produce high‑standard technical reports and documents.
* Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non‑technical clients; present outputs from studies to a range of audiences.
* Knowledge of current transport policy at sub‑regional, regional and national level.
