Overview

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Education Focused - Chemistry at UNSW. The School of Chemistry is internationally recognised for its excellence in research and teaching. UNSW’s Education Focused roles (EF) enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those appointed to this specialism are expected to drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities. The Role

The role is available at Level B or Level C with continuing, full-time appointment (35 hours per week) and salary ranges as described below. The role reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports.

* Level B ($127K - $150K) plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
* Level C ($155K - $178K) plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading


Responsibilities

LEVEL B: Specific responsibilities for this role include:

* Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
* Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
* Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
* Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
* Modify and develop curricula for the University’s calendar change (to be instituted in 2028).
* Support learning progression with students as individuals and as a cohort to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes.
* Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
* Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
* Make a positive contribution to School meetings and seminars and be a member of School/Faculty committees as required.
* Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
* Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that actions do not impact health and safety of self or others.

LEVEL C: (in addition to the above)

* Lead the design and development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning and participate in the exchange of these approaches with colleagues.
* Maintain and develop links within the discipline, industry and profession (e.g. contributes to professional development activities).
* Work collaboratively to identify and apply for internal education funding opportunities.
* Actively engage and contribute to UNSW’s Education Focused community driving educational excellence across the university.
* Work collaboratively with peers across UNSW in all aspects of academic endeavour, develop learning and teaching strategies and resources and contribute to an exchange of teaching ideas and mentoring of staff.
* Ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled for tasks, projects and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.


About The Successful Applicant (Selection Criteria)

LEVEL B: To be successful you will have:

* A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
* Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development.
* Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, curriculum development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
* Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
* Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
* Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning (desirable).
* Background and interest in the management and development of undergraduate laboratory programmes.
* Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
* Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to relevant training.

LEVEL C: (in addition to Level B)

* Experience in implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
* Evidence of fostering teaching effectiveness and a passion for educational excellence in others.
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
* Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
* Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
