Join to apply for the Senior Life Scientist role at AstraZeneca
Are you a Life Scientist with well-founded in vitro assay development experience who wants to add large pharma industry experience to your portfolio?
Introduction to role: Are you a Life Scientist with well-founded in vitro assay development experience who wants to add large pharma industry experience to your portfolio? Are you fueled by the commitment to help patients and see what science can do?
An opportunity has arisen to be part of the Bioassay, Biosafety and Impurities Group (BB&I), responsible for developing state-of-the-art methods to evaluate product quality by measuring biological activity and detecting, characterizing, and quantifying product variants and process-related impurities for biologics (e.g., antibodies, multispecifics, antibody-drug conjugates, modified peptides, viruses, RNAs). This work supports product understanding, manufacturing process development, formulation, drug product development, and regulatory filings, enabling drugs to reach the clinic and market. The group also manages control systems, including specifications, comparability, shelf-life strategies, and technical transfer of methods to clinical quality control and commercial launch sites, along with lifecycle management post-launch.
We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic lab-based scientist with strong scientific acumen and proven experience in in vitro biological activity methods to join our team at the Discovery Centre in Cambridge. The successful candidate will be hands-on in advancing the development and implementation of novel cell-based and immunoassays.
Accountabilities:
1. Utilize your knowledge of cell culture and hands-on potency assay development in a team-oriented environment.
2. Support drug development programs with data, leveraging existing and novel technologies and instrumentation.
3. Convert opportunities and resources to succeed, thrive in the team, and communicate achievements across various audiences.
4. Learn from experience and documentation to increase responsibilities and complexity with higher autonomy.
5. Motivated by curiosity and a solid scientific foundation to learn and train others in new technologies and automation-friendly approaches.
6. Build on AstraZeneca’s science-driven environment.
7. Develop biochemical and cell-based potency assays based on drug mode of action and perform routine sample testing.
8. Enable transfer of methods to other groups as appropriate.
9. Accurately record data and understand its implications within drug development.
10. Manage own work to meet targets and standards, communicating progress.
11. Discuss and defend experimental findings in cross-functional meetings, represent the group in CMC teams, and present at internal and external forums.
12. Prepare clear and concise technical documents such as SOPs, work plans, and reports.
13. Assist in training and coaching colleagues.
14. Ensure work complies with SHE, quality, and regulatory standards.
Essential Skills:
* PhD with 4-10 years of experience or equivalent relevant scientific experience.
* Thorough understanding of immunoassay/binding assays.
* Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and in vitro cell-based assay techniques (e.g., signaling, receptor binding, reporter, proliferation, cytotoxicity, ELISA, MSD, HTRF, AlphaLISA, SPR, imaging, flow cytometry).
Desired Skills:
* Experience in drug development within academia or industry.
* Experience with ADCC/CDC/ADCP assays and Bioassay/CMC.
* Cell line generation and molecular biology techniques.
* Experience with liquid handlers (e.g., Integra Assist, Dragonfly).
* Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, JMP, SoftMax Pro).
At AstraZeneca, we are passionate about science and committed to making a difference. We foster an inclusive environment that encourages collaboration and lifelong learning, aiming to improve patients' lives globally. Here, you can build a meaningful career while pushing the boundaries of science.
