Job Description
The salary for this role is £40,609 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, with flexible working options supported.
This role is based in Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including DBS checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
Join our team as a Microwave Heating and Current Drive Physicist to contribute to fusion energy research. Develop theoretical models of microwave plasma interaction and design experiments to test these models.
Key Accountabilities
* Develop models for microwave-plasma interaction, focusing on Electron Bernstein Wave interaction.
* Design and execute experiments to test theoretical predictions.
* Develop diagnostics specific to microwave-plasma interaction.
* Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
* Present work at conferences and internal meetings.
* Collaborate with external partners.
Qualifications
Essential:
* PhD in plasma physics.
* Proven research record in microwave-plasma interaction.
* Experience with Electron Bernstein Waves is desirable.
* Experience presenting at international conferences.
* Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
Support for career development, including working towards chartership with the Institute of Physics, is provided.
